Our Mission
Ascension's Community Outreach Program is our expression of
the congregation’s faith through social outreach among the poor and the
needy, the forgotten and the unloved, the displaced and the hurting; and the
general integration of the congregation’s work into the life of the community.
Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN)
The Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) provides housing and meals
at our church for a week duration, approximately three times per
year. IHN residents have been carefully screened to help ensure
that IHN can make a positive influence on their lives, having a high
success rate in helping folks get back on their feet.
Northern Churches Care
Ascension has taken an active role in
food donations and Thanksgiving turkey drives. Our past Thanksgiving
drive brought in donations of 56 turkeys and a large quantity of
canned goods, bread, vegetables and fruit.
World Hunger relief and Fair Trade projects.
We have regular, on-going Fair Trade food sales of gourmet foods
such as coffee, chocolate and wild rice. We also have a World
Market Bazaar several times during the year.
Church World Services/CROP Walk
Ascension was one of the three
sponsoring churches for the 2006 CWS CROP Walk. The activity
was a great success, raising over $7000 for world hunger relief.
Mission Trips
Ascension has conducted a wide variety of mission
trips. Examples include building or repairing homes at the
Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Mexico and New Orleans (Katrina relief).
Church 'Planting'
Ascension is helping to sponsor the building
and growth of a new mission church in Falcon, CO.
Malagasy Companion Synod and Nepalese Mission Church
We continue
to work with and support our sister mission synod and churches in
Madagascar and Nepal, having supported the churches with land and
building materials for new places of worship and their children with
school supplies.
Prayer Chain/Requests:
Ascension is a caring and loving community
that reaches out to its members through acts of prayer, sharing and
outreach. The Ascension
Prayer Chain is a key facet of this outreach, providing a prayer 'conduit' for
issues of congregational and individual concern.
