High Blood Pressure (hypertension)
Blood pressure checks are performed the first Sunday of every month. This
is done with one of our nurses taking blood pressures and providing information
about the meaning of your blood pressure reading.
Tracking your blood pressure is very important; if it is high,
you may need medication to control it. Blood pressure affects all vital organs
and blood vessels. High blood pressure (called 'hypertension') cannot be cured,
but it can be controlled in most cases. For some people, weight loss, exercise
and recreation may lower blood pressure. The medical treatment for high blood
pressure must be tailored to the specific needs of the individual. Always check
with your doctor before beginning any exercise program.

Preventive Health Care
The key to good health is prevention; the following list shows the levels
of preventive health care:
1. Promote Optimum Health: e.g., routine visits to the doctor
2. Protection: e.g., immunizations, flu shots
3. Adequate Treatment: e.g., referrals to health care specialists
4. Rehabilitation: following injury, surgery, or illness
Please talk to our Parish Nurse about how you can be proactive
in maintaining your good health.
