Columbarium
The Columbarium is a place for the respectful storage of
cinerary urns. The term comes from the Latin columba (dove),
the dove being the symbol of God's spirit and peace. Many churches have
traditionally laid the dead to rest in special places set aside in church yards,
and the Columbarium is an extension of that tradition.
Ascension Lutheran Church has built a Columbarium
on church property to meet the needs of its congregation. For more information
